Letterpress, engraving, foil stamping – who doesn’t love a good print special effect, especially when the artwork is pressed deep into the paper?
Yet due to the heat and/or pressure involved, the back of the printed sheet usually reflects the artwork from the front; this is referred to as “bruising.”
When we’re talking about brochures or folder covers, for example, that bruising can get in the way of your printed copy or imagery on the opposite side. It also prevents you from using the back of business cards or other marketing materials because of the “bumpiness” (the technical term ;-)) on the back.
