Wedding Invitation Suite With Sculptured Emboss

As lovers of the 1939 film classic “The Wizard of Oz” know, love and magic can often be found in your own backyard. Just ask Margeaux and Liam, who first met as neighbors before tying the knot in 2023. It was this combination of love and fate that inspired the design of their wedding invitation suite which, through its clever use of eye-catching embellishments, instantly let guests know that they “weren’t in Kansas anymore.”

Designed and produced by our good friends at Marc Friedland Couture Communications [projects / website], the magic begins with the Save the Date card. It comes tucked inside a scrumptious square envelope, which features the recipient’s name and address digitally printed in Light Blue, while a floral design and return address are Hot Foil Stamped in Metallic Blue and Gold on the flap, respectively.

Opening the envelope reveals a stunning illustrated liner of 105 lb. Metallic Aqua paper Hot Foil Stamped in White and Gold inside.

Overlaying the Save the Date card is a simple folded 105 lb. Pearlescent sheet featuring an oh-so-appropriate quote from “The Wizard of Oz” (attributed to screenwriter Noel Langley).

Removing this lays bare the card itself, tastefully “on brand” with the details foiled in that same Gold and Blue color scheme on 200 lb. Natural White 100% cotton paper, playfully referring to the Oz theme by giving the wedding location as “Somewhere over the rainbow in Beverly Hills.”

At the top sits a beautiful monogram that artfully combines the couple’s first names. This is rendered in a dramatic Sculptured Emboss, Hot Foil Stamped in Gold, with floral accents in Blue Foil.

If this is the Save the Date card, just imagine what they did for the invitation! Let’s take a look.

It arrives in an impressively chunky Natural White mailer featuring now-familiar illustrations of flora and fauna on the flap, again Hot Foil Stamped in Metallic Blue, along with the return address in Gold Foil. On the front, an elegant label with a Gold frame carries the recipient’s name and address digitally printed in Blue.

A shimmering Ecru silk fabric liner presents itself as soon as the mailer flap is lifted, which certainly gives the impression of journeying “somewhere over the rainbow.”

And then we get to it – the main event – and it does not disappoint.

The invitation comes tucked inside a stunning sleeve of laminated Metallic Aqua paper stock with the bird and floral artwork in Gold and White Foil on the front.

If you look closely, you can just make out something special: an illustration of ballet shoes that pays tribute to the groom’s late mother, a dedicated dancer and choreographer. (This detail also shows up in the envelope liner for the Save the Date card, as well.)

And for a taste of drama, a Die Cut on the front dips slightly to show off the same Foiled and Embossed monogram that graced the Save the Date.

On the back of the sleeve, 3 cards lay out the pre-wedding events. These stand securely in a Die-Cut slit at the bottom, their differing heights creating a clever waterfall effect, so the titles of the last 2 are clearly visible: “The Night Before” and “Brunch with the [Family].”

Each card – 200 lb. Natural White 100% cotton stock again – is digitally printed rather than foiled but keeps to the Blue and Gold theme of the suite.

And now we get to the piece we’ve all been waiting for, and it’s a handful. Literally!

That’s because the piece that slides out of the sleeve is super-thick, comprised of 2 sheets of that 200 lb. Natural White stock laminated onto either side of a thick panel of White chipboard, and edge painted in Blue. The front of the invitation features that luscious Foiled and Embossed monogram, as well as the couple’s names and wedding details in Blue and Gold Foil.

Rounding out this stunning suite is a dinner menu digitally printed on 200 lb. Natural White in Blue and Gold with a simplified version of the floral pattern printed and Gold foiled on the back.

And just in case a gorgeous invitation isn’t enough of a keepsake for you, Marc Friedland avoided simple place-card tents in favor of these elegantly constructed, personalized card holders and removable cards. The holder’s snazzy Die Cut places the focus on the monogram, while lifting the card slightly reveals which table the guest is assigned to during the event.

As this suite so beautifully demonstrates, knowing what finishing techniques are out there and having the courage to use them can inspire your clients to see you for what you truly are: the “Wizard of Ah’s.” 😉
