Backs have been slapped, tears have dried, and now the winners of the Mohawk Show 12 announced in August are formerly presented to their peers in the official catalog, “Crush.”
This new volume features 90 documentary-style photographs highlighting the entries of the eight winners and 14 finalists, very much celebrating this year’s contest theme: “a love affair with paper.”
Printed on Mohawk Superfine (Eggshell Ultrawhite), the 6.5”-x-9” perfect-bound book was designed by the team at Tether. “I love the uncoated paper approach of the catalog,” says Mohawk Show 12 Jury Chair and Tether founder Stanley Hainsworth. “It allows the honesty of the pieces to be shown, instead of trying to put a spin on them.”
Boasting a fluorescent green cover intriguingly described as “cornea-melting,” the book continues with that color throughout as a complement to the 4-color process used to print the photos.
Further enhancing the layout is a 20-micron stochastic screen used by Hemlock Printers – the equivalent of a 380 standard line screen. As Hemlock Printers Managing Partner Frits Kouwenhoven observed, “The result of using this technique on Mohawk Superfine is like watching high-definition TV.”
