I’ve always liked the idea of sending cards to celebrate a new year. It’s refreshing to receive, and the concept lends itself to so many creative expressions from the serious to the irreverent. Here, the designer rides high with a wave pattern to commemorate the Chinese Year of the Snake.
Inspired by the kind of needlework only seen on an emperor’s robe in an ancient China dynasty, the swirls and scrolls resemble fine embroidery. Printed on uncoated cotton stock, the 220 lb. Cover feels like fabric too.
A serpentine logo at the top of the card expresses the theme visually. Two passes on a letterpress impart the texture of hand stitching. The design conveys the look and feel of traditional Chinese graphic design with quality, simplicity and balance.
