“Stop the world and let me off!” It’s a great lyric because who doesn’t feel that way once in awhile? After all, life seems to be getting more complex at a faster and faster and faster pace. This speed of change is the central theme in one of the best pieces submitted to the gallery this year – “New Move Trend Diary.”
Created by German design firm EIGA, the wire-o bound book is a self-promotional piece that examines visual trends, documents exceptional design and depicts outstanding creative solutions in dealing with abstract and concrete motion.
Four layers of stock in two cool colors were laminated together for the super-thick front and back covers. Each front cover was laser engraved – a process that took five minutes each to perform – for an amazing textural effect. The title was screen printed with daylight luminous orange that makes it virtually fluoresce on the grey paper.
Inside, the pages are organized into calendar weeks spanning 2014 through 2016. Individually designed typefaces grace every week. Inspired by selected works of art and design, the striking fonts capture dynamic motion in surprising and unique ways.
