On our fourth annual calendar, we found music legends to be an easy choice. The hard part was narrowing the list down to twelve.

The theme – the many ways we make print rock – sets the tone for Sunset Printing and Engraving’s fantastic 2015 calendar. Their talented in-house creatives lead by Morgan Wainer and Valerie Courtney get the whole gig humming with some pretty awesome design moves that show off a full range of printing and paper.
Mohawk Loop keeps the beat going on every printing technique imaginable, which included full bleeds, spot colors, CMYK, offset printing, engraving, letterpress printing, thermography, offset-over-foil printing, foil stamping, diecutting, gatefolding, sculpted embossing, blind embossing, and thermography!
The square format recalls album covers of those by-gone glory days. The requisite calendar is included, but the visual beauty (the interpretations of song titles via illustrations and typography) is clearly the focus of each month’s design. And really, isn’t the artwork why keep calendars long after they’ve expired?
Two of our favorite finishing tricks: a jagged diecut/gatefold heart for the Tina Turner-inspired “what’s love got to do with it” February and Elvis’s swinging hips à la a well-placed grommet for August. Texture and contrast abound on every page too thanks to combos like March’s sculpted emboss with clear foil lips, June’s CMYK over silver foil on the Loop Inxwell Vertical finish, November’s thermographed vinyl record rings, and December’s gold engraved type stars.
