The dramatic curves and contrasts in Kris Sowersby’s beautiful Domaine Sans typeface inspired the ‘type as image’ approach to the design.

“RMMR Projects is an interior design office; I wanted their card to be the equivalent of a plush, buttery leather sofa.” Tyler Swanner’s bold declaration has to be right up there with “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” and sums up these cards nicely. And that “buttery” goodness is all down to the choice of the Colorplan papers used.
Letterpress printed by Houston’s Workhorse Printmakers, the back of the cards are Legion Paper Colorplan 100 lb. Cover Vellum White, which really makes designer Swanner’s close-up of the company name pop. On the reverse, a low-key presentation of name and contact details on a second 100 lb. Cover card duplex laminated to the first. This studio being the brainchild of two people, one gets her info on Colorplan Powder Green, the other Pale Grey. All boast a texture that simply begs to be touched and held on to like a cherished memory.
“Getting our hands on the exact paper we wanted was no small task, especially considering the small quantity needed” – paper enough for just 500 cards – says Swanner. “In the end it was worth all the cross-time-zone phone calls and expedited shipping to print on Colorplan. Everything about the stock is gorgeous.”
An edge paint on the outside of the business cards is the icing on this particular cake, or perhaps the butter on the leather sofa.
