The most noteworthy (and time consuming) production highlight is probably the hand-done red tape binding that we applied in-house once we got the brochures back from our printer.
– Brandon Murphy, Caliber Creative
The Rocky Mount Brewmill is an innovative project focused on facilitating the growth of the craft beer industry in North Carolina as well as the economic redevelopment of the city of Rocky Mount. Located on a 100-acre campus that was previously home to the second oldest cotton mill in the state, the Brewmill approached Caliber Creative to create a new image for the revitalization of this historic spot. To do that, Caliber produced a logo, promotional materials including a brochure and posters, and a website that tells the brand story of this historic cotton mill turned “brewmill.”
The bold, graphic, 4-color brochure and marketing collateral were inspired by the historic mill where the Brewmill campus was built … and, of course, beer, says Caliber Creative Director Brandon Murphy. The type and illustrations have an intentionally scratchy, scruffy quality to them to further emphasize the down-to-earth, handmade quality of the brand. The Caliber team worked with Ussery Printing to produce 1,000 digitally printed brochures on Domtar Cougar Digital.
“We didn’t really do anything too fancy on this one,” Murphy notes, adding that the most labor-intensive part of the job was the stapling and red tape binding applied by hand at the design shop. “We used all of the willpower and intern power that we could muster!”
What lessons did Murphy and the Caliber team learn from this brochure project? “Always order extra tape!”
