Watermark Design’s objective when creating its 5”-x-7” Ahoy stationery card was to engage and inspire current and potential clients by showcasing the company’s services, which include hand lettering, watercolor illustrations and the ability to produce a premium print product. The elegant card features the hand lettered, foil-stamped word “Ahoy” against a blue watercolor background. The foil stamp highlights the fine details in the word and shines against the matte background of Crane’s Lettra.
During the production process, the design team learned that the beautiful watercolor background could not be letterpress printed, so they found other ways to achieve the letterpress look while maintaining the 4-color background.
“We achieved a premium look by offset printing the custom watercolor texture on two sheets of 110 lb. Neenah Crane’s Lettra, laminated together to create a luxurious 220 lb. feel, followed by foil stamping the hand-lettered Ahoy,” says art director Darcey Ohlin Lacy.
The piece created an uptick in outreach responsiveness, social media interaction, and client interest in premium-level printed projects.
