Update (4/14/14): Sources confirm that Arjowiggins will be selling Appleton Coated, but will continue to make the Curious Collection and Conqueror lines of paper available inside the U.S. through the usual channels. -ed.
We’re getting sketchy reports out of Europe today that Arjowiggins “plans to definitely exit the US market for coated graphic paper” – news that nearly made us drop our morning tea. Parent company Sequana has started the ball rolling to sell off its U.S. coated division “to reduce Arjowiggins’ exposure to standard coated paper segment and refocus the company on the specialty business.” (There’s no news bad enough that business-speak can’t make sound even worse.)
If this is true, what this means for Appleton Coated, Arjowiggins’ US coated subsidiary, remains uncertain.
And the paper market “game of thrones” continues…
