Just take a look at this GF Smith promo, Specials Applied, designed by English design firm Studio Makgill. The package highlights five papers from GF Smith’s Specialist range, paired with five different finishing techniques.
The firm’s founder, Hamish Makgill, describes it quite simply this way:
“An intricate system of die-cuts allow the cover to become the contents and a window to materials within.”
From the seemingly-random yet oddly symmetrical fall of die-cut rectangles to the heat debossing and other techniques, it’s an arresting, inspiring piece to be sure.
