The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) announced the 2011 recovery rate of paper consumed in the U.S., which has reached a record-high 66.8 percent.
The level of paper recovery for recycling achieved in 2011 is nearly double the industry benchmark of 33.5 percent set in 1990, the year the industry established its first recovery goal.
“To have nearly doubled our industry’s recovery rate in just two decades is an amazing achievement,” said AF&PA president and CEO Donna Harman. “Paper recovery for recycling is an important part of our Better Practices, Better Planet 2020 sustainability initiative, and I am proud of the commitment our industry continues to make toward increasing paper recovery and building on our legacy of sustainability leadership.”
