As we all wake up and rub the sleep from our eyes on this, the first day of our government shutdown, New York’s attack dog of a tabloid reminds us just how powerful and on-the-money print design can be. While the comment sections of news sites will doubtless be heaving with vitriol, mud slinging, and the usual ill will one now associates with the Web, the Daily News gives it to us right between the eyes with its central cover image. (Now if only they could do something with those horrible bullet points and underlined subheads at the bottom – ugh!)
