Think you need to splash out on a rainbow of colors to get your wine & spirit labels noticed on the shelf these days? Think again.
Printing just one offset color and using two Kurz colored foils, Swiss hot-stamping equipment maker Gietz partnered with Destillerie Brunner (working alongside Studio Sinner) to create labeling for “Gietzerello/Gingerello,” which begs to be savored just as much as the liqueur inside the bottle.
The secret? A combination of Foiling and Embossing accomplished in one go. Designed by the distillery’s founder, Benjamin Brunner, (with fine-tuning by Gietz), the label uses an Avery Dennison Fasson Cotton Touch self-adhesive label as a base.
The Black text on the back label is offset printed by CCL Label Trittenheim, as is the Black on the neck cap.
Next, Golden Foil is applied to the front and back labels, as well as the neck cap, also Avery Dennison Fasson Cotton Touch. A combination Foiling-Embossing die then renders the illustration of the head in matte Black Foil.
To create the frame lines and embroidery-like pattern that surround the head, as well as to lend texture to the Golden Foil “arrow” design, the label is Embossed. The pattern itself is a nod to Switzerland’s St. Gallen region, which is one of the largest sources of embroidered products in the world, in addition to being the source for the liqueur’s ingredients.
Finally the label is Kiss Cut. All of these steps are accomplished in one pass using one large stamping area.
The clever people at Gietz know a fabulous label when they see one. So to produce demonstration labels, an interchangeable die is used to first produce several labels for Gietz (using the name “Gietzerello”), and then exchanged to stamp labels for the distillery’s “Gingerello” beverage.
The result is a gorgeous, eminently touchable label whose use of Foil and Embossing make this bottle practically leap off the shelf: An eye-catching lesson in how to “get ahead” in spirit labeling 😉
