Jaf Tea, one of the largest exporters of tea in Sri Lanka since 1944 and a seller of quality Ceylon tea worldwide (with particularly large markets in Russia and Asia), tapped London’s Studio h to redesign the brand and packaging, and to reposition the company as a premium quality, global Ceylon tea brand. (Note: “Ceylon” is the former name of Sri Lanka.)
Inspired by the famous tea plantations of Sri Lanka, the abstract tea-bush motif has leaves that represent the contours and pathways of tea gardens. The tea bud is given a strong position in the motif and the Jaf Tea master brand, further emphasizing the quality of the tea.
The packaging is made of Metsä Board C1S and was hand-constructed. The printing incorporates CYMK, two types of silver, pale gold and spot UV.
Multiple printing techniques were used to reinforce the brand’s premium message. Finishing techniques include matte silver, gold foiling, and embossing on the tea-bush logo. Black foil was used on the master brand; a matte champagne gold background creates a subtle but distinctive effect.
