When GLS/Next Precision Marketing set out to create a grab-and-go gift for its sales team, they knew the packaging had to be as impressive as the gift inside. They selected a kit of wine tools housed in a wine bottle carrier that sales reps could use as a holiday, birthday or thank you giveaway.
While the gift itself is impressive, the carrier — a folding carton that pops up to reveal a handle for easy carrying — shows off the capabilities of GLS/Next with flair. The outer container is made from GPA Ultra Print C1S 18 pt. board digitally printed in CMYK on an HP Indigo 10000 press.
To add some oomph to the packaging and make their brand colors pop, the company used an offline digital process called Scodix Sense, adding a spot gloss option. (Think raised UV, but much more shiny, plus the ink can be raised 100 times higher than with selective varnishes.) It gives the carrier an extra visual appeal as well as a tactile one.
The biggest challenge in designing and producing the piece was making sure the Scodix clear coating was not applied to any folds, creases or cuts, which would have caused it to chip or crack.
