Billing itself as “an owner, developer and manager of unique hotels deeply rooted in their location and architecture,” the Sydell Group decided to forego the usual hotel-room books filled with photos of rich-looking people dining in interchangeable restaurants for something quite different.
Tailored to guests at The Line Hotel in LA’s Koreatown, Here magazine gives “insight into the neighborhood around it — not just the tourist hot-spots,” explains Adam Johnson of design firm Xtra Shiny.
The Mohawk Via Linen bright white 80 lb. Cover turns out to be an excellent choice for this perfect bound volume that resists the urge to go for a full bleed with its cover photo while making the magazine name and hotel’s GPS coordinates stand out on the spine.
Inside, the Lynx Opaque uncoated 60 lb. continues to crank up the incandescence of the magazine with a 96 brightness that really makes photos of street life and off-the-beaten-path ambles pop. Hemlock Printers, which did such a smashing job on the Take Note Award-winning Gather Journal, moves from intimate black-and-white photos to deep-color nature shots beautifully.
