The Gather Journal, a new food and lifestyle magazine, has published a gorgeous premiere issue (Summer 2012). Actually, calling it a magazine is not truly descriptive of this unique bi-annual publication.
The format instantly reminded me of my favorite copies of LensWork – perfect bound, 7.5″ x 9.5″ – and for its aspirations to bring the very best to the table for readers. From the mouthwatering recipes and photography to the nutritious essays and graphic design, it is satisfying in every way.
The entire journal is done on uncoated stock. The cover, 100 lb. Via Linen Cover with a black foil-stamped logo, and the inside pages, 70 lb. Lynx Opaque Text, have been strikingly printed.
Deeply saturated images evoke an intimate mood on this paper. My fingers, feeling the texture of the uncoated pages, instantly send a message to my brain recalling the textures of the food featured – nubby fried octopus, sandy kosher salt, frothy ice cream floats, scratchy herb leaves.
Gather Journal was featured as a Paper Inspiration.
