Hats off to UnderConsideration for calling our attention to this fun little number just perfect for the lead-up to Halloween. This poetry collection by Holly Riordan is brimming with the ruminations on love, loss and heartbreak you would normally expect to find, only with a macabre twist.
How fitting then that Thought Catalog Books gave this volume a little twist of their own: glow-in-the-dark covers!
The exploded woman revealed when the lights go out isn’t just a great effect, it’s a wonderful visual metaphor, too.
“We wanted the feel of an uncoated paper for the cover but knew it wouldn’t be compatible with a glow-in-the-dark treatment,” they told UnderConsideration. “We worked with Mohawk to select the best option (an Inxwell paper, Navajo smooth) which we felt would combine well with the intended treatment while still giving us the uncoated feel. We went through a couple rounds of testing and were pleased to discover it worked!”
