Moved by unseen forces, the team at Alexander Isley, Inc. Designers germinated a highly creative program guide for TEDMED 2014 attendees.
That’s right. Bacteria inspired the design motif for this medical conference. A custom typeface developed in association with type designer Graham Bradley and appropriately named Bacterium achieves great textural and visual effects on the front cover.
A pattern, created from the font’s abstract shapes, is debossed with matte black foil. The conference theme, Unlocking Imagination, is laser diecut amid the shapes. Divider pages also make use of the Bacterium pattern and contain hidden words and illustrations relevant to each section (e.g. the “Speakers” divider includes hidden drawings of faces, and the “Innovators” section contains medical and science imagery such as a beaker, a DNA strand, and a caduceus.)
The program guide also features more than 70 amazing speaker portraits illustrated by Victor Juhasz. Each is highlighted with swatches of color that echo the color palette and Bacterium-inspired elements seen throughout.
About the PaperSpecs Gallery
We’ve created a curated space where design, paper and printing excellence are celebrated and made very visible – for those who love the medium of paper. For those who want a little inspiration. For those who may be your next clients.
What’s in it for you?
As well as receiving exposure for your work (and the admiration of your peers), a feature video about your project might appear on the PaperSpecs website.
Go on, Show us What You’ve Got
Those selected to appear in the PaperSpecs Gallery will be notified by e-mail. Not all entries will be selected for inclusion. We’re looking for those printed pieces that are truly inspirational in terms of creative and appropriate use of paper, and excellence in design and printing.
We can’t wait to see what you’re capable of!
