What if you could capture on paper the once-in-a-lifetime experience of an African safari, and place it on your shelf so you could relive it over and over again? What would that look like? What would it FEEL like?
Ideally it would look and feel a lot like this stunning volume and presentation box, which uses unconventional materials, sculptured embosses, and luxurious binding and material choices to bring the African wilderness to vivid life.
Produced by our good friends at highresolution printing, custom made for eight lucky people who made this exclusive journey, it looks and feels like an heirloom passed down over generations.
A Powerful Box of Memories
Let’s start with this elegant copper sculptured emboss die, which was designed by highresolution and produced by Metal Magic. It features an illustration based on a zebra photo taken by Erin Silber.
Rather than using the die to emboss paper, highresolution truly pushed the limits and used it to emboss an actual sheet of copper! The sculptured copper sheet was then tipped into the lid of the presentation box.
If you look closely, you can see that the lid includes a deboss frame so that the sheet can fit snuggly inside, the top being flush with the box’s surface. Not only do the contours of the sheet provide the package with a unique tactile quality, but the copper also gives the impression of a setting sun over the African tundra, which is suggested by the Brown Skivertex Silktouch Thermo cover material from Neenah, wrapped over 118 lb. board.
A Book of Memories
Opening the clamshell box reveals the book itself, which is easily removed thanks to a copper-colored pull ribbon that matches the copper sheet. The familiar sculptured zebra emboss appears once more, this time rendered in White 110 lb. Crane’s Lettra Ecru Cover and tipped in to the book’s front cover. The cover itself is layered by Natuur & Halflinnen book cloth, whose look and feel mimic the wild grasses of Africa.
Inside, 126 photographs taken on the excursion are digitally printed on 80 lb. Domtar Lynx Opaque Cover in vibrant color. The book itself is Smyth Sewn and Quarter Bound with the same Neenah Skivertex Silktouch Thermo as the clamshell box.
Another copper ribbon, this time a bookmark, as well as luxurious copper edgepainting, complete the impression of this book-box combination being a keepsake from some bygone era.
