‘P is for Purr’ Letterpress Cards

'P is for Purr' Letterpress Cards - PaperSpecs

When you work in print for a living it is unfortunately very easy to forget what a delightfully experimental medium it can be given half a chance. Jamie Burwell Mixon certainly had no trouble finding the fun when she made these letterpress cards that she titled “P is for Purr.”

A professor of graphic design and recent interim department head for Mississippi State University’s Department of Art in the College of Architecture, Art + Design, she “taught a class in Italy last summer and filled my sketchbook with drawings of Italian cats and dogs,” she explains. “The kitten image is a charcoal drawing pulled from these. I actually printed them while in a letterpress class at Mississippi State University. I was lucky to be able to sit in on a summer session of letterpress last year. “

Jamie tells us she hand mixed the two colors she used based on some digital test prints – a wonderfully understated synergy between old and new.
