The Oyster

Wow … wow … wow! Printers can produce some of the most stunning self-promotion pieces and capabilities brochures (as they should), but this one is truly amazing.

The piece is aptly titled thanks to the unusual hand-folded format. A seemingly simple 12″ x 12″ opens up to a flat 24″ x 36″ in a way that resembles the edges of an oyster shell. Three inserts are cleverly tucked inside the large folds. One is digitally printed on 110 lb. GPA Pumpkin Orange using five hits of white. (The white was done as type, and also the base for the four-color photos.)

Then you get to the pearl hidden inside this oyster and Wow! … full-bleed, heavy coverage CMYK with metallic foil laminate and spot high-gloss UV coating on 12 pt./85 lb. Xtreme Coated Cover. Poster anyone?!

The design does everything it should – show all the printing and finishing capabilities of this printer (in a memorable way) as well as the innovative spirit of the company and its employees. The plastic credit card-style business cards are enhanced with a QR code and personalized with a quote from that employee.

Oh, and let’s not forget the shell for this oyster. A carrier printed full-bleed process color on 22 pt. Environment Folding Board with custom perforations. The printer’s tagline on the edge says “More than Ink.” All in all, that’s an understatement here. Did I say Wow?

The Oyster was featured as a Paper Inspiration.
